Leicester vs Brighton 23/06/20

Archie Munroe

The first game of gameweek 31 saw Leicester take on Brighton at the King Power Stadium. Leicester would have been hoping to go one better than last week and secure 3 points, whereas Brighton would have been hoping to pick up where they left off. Unfortunately neither side were able to do that, as a 0-0 result meant that the points were shared.

BEST PLAYER - KASPER SCHMEICHEL

You may be questioning why I thought he was the best player as Brighton failed to test Leicester’s ever-present goalkeeper from open play. However, in the 13th minute, James Justin brought down Aaron Connolly inside Leicester’s box, forcing Lee Mason to point to the spot. Despite being expected to score 76 times out of 100 (.76 xG), Kasper Schmeichel saved Neal Maupay’s penalty, meaning that he has now saved two penalties in a row, after saving one from Sergio Aguero back in gameweek 27. If it wasn’t for that save, Brighton would have taken all 3 points.

WORST PLAYER - DAN BURN

Despite being fairly consistent throughout the season, Brighton’s unorthodox left back had a tough afternoon. Burn added little to Brighton’s defence, failing to make any interceptions and fouling Leicester players as often as he tackled them (once). Furthermore, standing at 6’6, you would expect Burn to win everything in the air. However, this was not the case as he only won 8 of his 12 aerial duels (only one more than Aaron Connolly!). Even when he did have the ball, Burn was wasteful, completing only 35% of his 27 passes and giving the ball away 24 times!

UNDERRATED PLAYER - TARIQ LAMPTEY

Today marked the full debut for Tariq Lamptey since his move from Chelsea in January. The full back who impressed against Arsenal in December excelled again, being the bright spark in an otherwise dim Brighton. Lamptey frequently progressed his side up the pitch, completing 5 dribbles (more than double anyone else on the pitch) as well as completing the most passes of any Brighton player who played 90 minutes (22 with an 82% accuracy). Unlike Burn, he even won 100% of his aerial duels despite only being 5’4. I’m sure we’ll see more of Tariq Lamptey in the future.
